When you hit the mountain on your first skiing or snowboarding trip there are a lot of things on your mind. Are you going to embarrass yourself out there? Will you learn quickly enough? Most of all, you're likely excited over how much fun you're about to have. However, it's important to keep in mind that skiing and snowboarding are sports filled with equipment, starkly colder weather, and the spending of money. Everything you wear should be waterproof. You might have decided at the last minute to go on that ski weekend with your classmates, but you need to pick up or borrow something to wear other than your cotton sweater and long johns. You should have energy bars or trail mix on you while out on the slopes and remember to feed yourself every couple of hours. It's likely that when you step out there, you won't be back inside for a few hours. In that case you shouldn't be starving when you return. Stay energized.

Right along with forgetting to feed yourself, you might forget to hydrate yourself. While it's cold outside and you're wet, you are still exerting a lot of energy and in the process dehydrating yourself. It's good to have a source of hydration on you at all times when exercising and when on the slopes. It's even more important if only because you'll likely forget you need it.

Bring along some cash and your ID. It might upset you to consider that you'll lose any of it while swapping clothes and sliding down a mountain. However, it's always good to be prepared and unless you live in the mountains, you're likely far from home. If anything goes wrong you should be ready to deal with it. The last thing you need is to get injured and not be identifiable because you left your ID back in the city.

Have your cell phone neatly tucked away on your person if you can manage it. Preferably you will have a nice ski jacket with enough packets to hold all of your cash, ID, food, water, and cell phone. But if not, convince a friend to carry their or your phone on them. Once again, you don't want to think about it, but if something goes wrong it's best to be prepared.

None of these things include the basic equipment you'll need when skiing or snowboarding. These are the essentials that everyone tends to forget, whether it's because they are too excited or simply because they were in a hurry. The important thing to remember is that when you step out on that mountain you need to be prepared for anything, including bad weather, hunger, and thirst. You'll be having too much fun to pay attention to the details, so thinking ahead will go a long way in making sure you're covered by the time the sun goes down.


The Thrill Of Snowboarding For Those Who Are Unfamiliar With The Sport

Even though people didn't really get the concept of snowboarding until the 1970s it didn't really become part of the winter Olympics nor popular until 1998. Today this is the sport that everyone is waiting for when watching the winter Olympics.

So snowboarding shouldn't and can't be that hard if he can just go for 2 weeks and get good at the sport. He wasn't even that good on a surfboard and he did better on a snowboard it looked then a surfboard and on top of all that he even bought a snowboard. That's how easy and fun he said it was.

A lot of the resorts often host contest for snowboarding so if you are there and have been snowboarding before you can enter to win.

Also there are many big companies that come to these events when being hosted so it may be your shot to get a sponsor or two while boarding in some of these events. You never know if you do well enough you may become a sponsored rider. Just go out and try your best and make the best of what you have.

Today you can even have your snowboard custom made unlike back in the day you had one type of board that you could ride. Not today, today you can custom make a board to the size and figure that you want it and even have it painted the way you want. All you do is go to a shaper or maker and have it made.

One of the problems with snowboarding just like any other sport is injuries. You will need to wear a helmet when snowboarding so that you don't crack your noggin. So when you go to the icy slopes or wherever it is that you may go you need to wear protection so you don't become injured on your trip seeing as that can cause a short trip. So go out today and start riding who knows you might be better at snowboarding then the sport you already do or compete in. it is easy or everyone is the northern states wouldn't be doing it. Colder weather is fast approaching and I know some runners who will pack in their shoes for the season. I've never been one of them - but some runners just can't find a reason to be out there in winter.

1. Winter running burns calories quickly. If you are running to lose weight or to keep your weight down - you definitely don't want to pass on winter running. When the temperature is colder, your body works harder to warm up. And, when your body is working harder, you are burning more calories.

2. Beat the "winter blues". Many people get depressed during the winter and may even suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder. This occurs from longer hours of darkness and not getting outside in the sunlight. Running will help you to avoid this problem.

If you take the winter off, that's OK. It's what you want to do. But, for many of us, there's too many reasons to be out there.
